I'm Still Standing…

… and that’s about it, right now. In case you’re wondering, no, I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth. We moved to a new apartment on March 20, and the only internet access I’ve had since then is at the local coffee shop (Mr. Bleck, it’s called, and that’s about how the coffee tastes. I hate German coffee, but that’s a topic for another post!).

As I’ve mentioned before, everything in Germany takes approximately three weeks and an official stamp. I called Vodafone DSL about a week before the move, to give our new address.

Unfortunately, changing the DSL account wasn’t as easy as pushing a button, as it is in the US. Instead, about a week or so I got a letter acknowledging the phone call and asking me to fill out and fax a form to Vodafone.

So I filled out the form… but where am I supposed to fax it from? With no phone line, I have no fax. Finally, after another week, I was able to go to the Let’s Talk offices (the Language School I teach for) to fax the form. Tried twice, no answer!

I ended up going to three different Vodaphone stores in the Altstadt, the first two said (in German, of course) “You can’t do that here, you have to go to another Vodaphone shop.” The third one could fax, but needed my account number–couldn’t look me up by name or phone number–which I didn’t have!

Kevin had gone home, so I found him to give me the number over the phone, faxed off the form. That was a week ago… and now I’m still waiting for a phone call. Of course, today is a holiday (Karfreitag, or Good Friday) so everything’s closed. These offices aren’t typically open on weekends, and Monday’s also a holiday (Ostermontag — Easter Monday) so the best I can hope for is Tuesday.

So don’t be suprised if you don’t hear from me for a bit longer!

Oh, and by the way, I still have to tell you all about my Paris trip!
