In case you haven't noticed…

I’m not going to write about my trip here in the Journal, since I’m covering it pretty thoroughly in the Tour de South section. But here I’ll write about other stuff, like the fact that I’m turning 35 in less than a week….

It’s funny, I don’t think about my age most of the time. I spend most of my time around friends several years younger (anywhere from 6-12 years) and usually don’t think about the difference. The guy I’m dating is also quite a bit younger (more about him later) and neither of us have issue with it. But I look at myself at 30, just five years ago, and realize how much my life has changed since then.

I realize, though, that I’m at a good place in my life. While I didn’t choose how I got here, I did choose how I dealt with the tragedies of the past few years, and I find myself much more centered and sane than I have been in a long time. I’m doing what I love, with people I like, I spend time with my daughter, and while we both mourn the loss of Shawn, and there are always moments when it all comes crashing down and I have to cry, overall I feel mentally and spiritually healthier now than this time last year (we’re still working on the physical health part!).

Anyway, that’s enough for tonight. More later!

Ouch!

I got sunburned today at the pool, even though I put on sunscreen, so I’m sitting here feeling a bit like a steamed lobster, and looking like one too. I’m at Jim the TechGod’s condo, waiting on the fireworks (he lives behind Freedom Hall in JC and has a great view!) and enjoying communing with a fellow technogeek. I have to admit, though, that I’m a mere amateur when compared to Jim…

It is, however, *very* nice to walk into someone elses house and in under a minute have wireless access to his cable modem, not to mention his boundless knowledge. “Hey Jim, I can’t get the search function to work in my blog.” Three seconds later, it’s fixed.

Getting better all the time….

Okay folks… I’ve bought a Mac-compatible CF card reader so that I can upload photos (as you’ve probably seen), and updated the Tour de South with the latest pics of my hometown. I’m also working on finishing my Barbie paper for Dr. Shields, and I brought along Signs of Performance to read for Jonathan’s class. Busy, Busy, Busy….

I pick Sheridan up Friday morning, so we can watch the fireworks on the Fourth at my friend Jim’s house… He lives right behind Freedom Hall in JC, so we can watch from his back porch. He’s having a cookout like last year. Fun! Not sure what else we’re doing in Johnson City yet, since it’s a holiday weekend. But I am looking forward to visiting with all my friends there!

The Best Laid Plans…

*Sigh* Further forays into the world of Mac/PC incompatibility…. You would think they’d get this stuff figured out by now…

After discovering that neither my printer nor my scanner will work on the Mac, I now discover that the CF card reader I have won’t work either. Of course, the bad news is that I have to buy new printer, scanner, and reader to get them to work with the Mac. The good news, though, is that I found relatively inexpensive ones that are compatible with both.
I’m trying to create an office environment at home that will allow me to use my Mac laptop (Welcome to the Dark Side!) and my PC with the same peripherals. It’s just going to take a little more time and money than I had planned…. Oh well.

Welcome to my world!

So, with a little help from my friends (Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mister Jim!), I have my new weblog up and running! You can check in here for the latest news about happenings in my life, although most of what I post over the next five weeks will be trip related, and will be on that page, with pictures. So just to let you know, I’m up and running, and VERY happy! Yay! Read on…

Well, this is the SECOND time I’ve posted my “first” entry…. Still working on the CGI, trying to make all the pages work. the “Search Entries” is broken, so it’s turned off for now, until I have the time to fix it. But hopefully it’s all ready to go now.

Third time is a charm….

After a few CGI glitches, I think it’s all working now…. Read on to see my original entry, from Monday 6/23. I’ll be adding more as we move on…
